“Spring is Beautiful, but Fall is Meaningful”
Wine Tasting

Hello everyone,

Mary Thorsby

The quote in the headline above comes from Louisa V., one of our most memorable Guests. We’ve been thinking about that quote as we’ve successfully moved through the spring and summer months and addressed the numerous challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’m happy (and relieved) to report that the safety measures we’ve put in place are working, and we’re able to focus on what we do best: providing beautifully contemplative care to our Guests. There’s simply nothing quite like walking into our Guests’ rooms and feeling the love and the peace that envelopes us all. The work we do at ABODE is indeed meaningful – and even magical.

OUR GUESTS, OUR HEARTS

Since I wrote to you last, we bid farewell to Robert and to Lilia. We cared for Lilia less than a week. Robert was with us just over a month. Friends, family and, of course, our staff and volunteers, sat with them both, meditating, praying, singing, massaging their heads, holding their hands. They died knowing that people care about them and will miss them. That’s a pretty lovely ending to two lives well led.

We continue to enjoy the special beauty of Sandra and her devoted family and friends. We especially love it when her four-legged furbaby – aptly named Baby – comes for a visit. Sandra and her daughter Joy were wonderful champions of ours during the recent Big Give campaign. We were delighted to meet our $35,000 goal and are so deeply grateful to all of you.

Just yesterday, we welcomed the very handsome Jack to ABODE. Jack was an oil man, managing the accounting function for Tesoro and later, Marathon Oil. He lost his wife earlier this year. His children and their spouses love to dote on Jack. And we’re excited to dote on him, too.

We’re visiting with another potential Guest today. If we’re the right fit, we’ll soon have a full house with all three rooms occupied. And that’s the way we like it best.

SO MANY GOOD THINGS AHEAD
We have two upcoming, very meaningful programs that I think you’ll enjoy – Life After Loss and our Annual Dia de los Muertos Brunch. So please keep reading below and plan to join us, if you can.

As we head into this last part of of 2020 (can I get an amen?), we continue to rely on and so appreciate your support. If you’d like to get those handy end-of-year tax deductions in, please donate here And consider joining our Householders by giving a monthly donation. You can learn more about that program at our upcoming Dia de los Muertos Brunch.

Thank you for all you do for ABODE, our Guests, our volunteers and our staff. Please continue to stay safe. We’re thinking of you all.
