Hello everyone,
Fall is an exceptionally beautiful time of year at ABODE. The cool air invites us to keep our windows open and our Guests enjoy more time outdoors on their patios – which is always a nice treat. We’re moving forward with several exciting new initiatives including our six-week Life After Loss Grief Support Group. Christus Hospice is partnering with us on this special program, which we successfully launched last Thursday. Thank you, Christus!
While 2020 has been a difficult year for us all, we at ABODE remain focused on carrying out our mission, vision and values every day. We have so much to be thankful for – especially those we’re honored to care for at end of life.

OUR GUESTS, OUR HEARTS
Since I wrote to you last, we bid farewell to Christopher and to Sandra. Sometimes Guests come to us and, once settled in our safe, quiet rooms surrounded by love, they die within hours. Such was the case with Christopher. We were happy that we could provide him with the peace he needed at the exact time he needed us most.
We were able to enjoy more time with Sandra (above, left). She came to us in late August – and we so loved getting to know her and her beautiful family including her pup, Baby. Sandra died last week with her beloved son-in-law holding her hand. We thank Sandra’s family for sharing her with us.
We’re continuing to care for Jack (center, getting a fancy manicure!) and for our newest Guest, BJ (right, lovin’ on Milo). Both Jack and BJ contribute such a sweet spirit and energy to ABODE. We’ll be welcoming a third Guest within the next day or two.
LAST CALL: DIA DE LOS MUERTOS BRUNCH
Have you RSVP’d yet for our complimentary Dia de los Muertos (virtual) brunch? Today’s the deadline! Our brunch/Zoom is set for Sunday, Oct. 25. Please scroll down for details – we’d love to have you with us!
NEW: HANDS-ON TRAINING
And in new news, our Education Committee is planning in-depth, hands-on training for ABODE staff and volunteers for the evening of Friday, Nov. 13 and the day of Saturday, Nov. 14, in the very spacious Brown Hall at the Church of Reconciliation. The training is limited to 15 masked folks. Interested in participating? Read on below!
OUR SINCERE APPRECIATION
As you know, ABODE operates solely on your donations and on a limited number of grants. With the COVID pandemic stretching so many foundation resources, grants have become significantly more competitive. If you’re able and you’d like to make your end-of-year tax-deductible gifts to ABODE now, we welcome you to donate here. We so appreciate your support!
Thank you for all you do for ABODE, our Guests, our volunteers and our staff. Please continue to stay safe. We’re thinking of you all.
