Fernando died in our Green Room. Rosie, his wife of 55 years, barely left his side.

That’s Retired Air Force Colonel Hal Smarkola sharing a final salute with Fernando, as he does for all the Veterans who come to ABODE. Fernando was in the Army.

“I’m proud to have served with you in the same military,” Hal said. “We’re all safe another day because of your service. We’ll see you on the other side. God bless you.”

Fernando was under the care of Amedia Hospice.
