Welcome to ABODE

ABODE provides a welcoming, peaceful home and unconditional loving care to our guests through the compassionate service of our community and volunteers.

Our Vision

Dying is a sacred time of life. Love, compassion, and a home matter to all who are dying; those whom we honor and from whom we learn. We serve the community as an educational resource in the art of contemplative living and dying.

Our Open House Celebration was held on Saturday, September 27. Many of you joined us in this time of celebration and we know those of you who could not be there in person were there in spirit.

Thank you for helping build ABODE.

We have shifted gears now and are training volunteers and reaching out to hospitals and hospices to educate them on the purpose of ABODE. We are anticipating taking in our first guest very soon. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for ABODE, submit your application today.

We are also continuing to raise funds to cover our first year of Operating Expenses.

The completion of Abode is coming quickly. As Martin Martin says, "It is humbling to see in the purchase of the property, the design and construction of the home, and in funds to help it operate, how the desire to serve dying people with a welcoming and peaceful ABODE, with unconditional love, is resonating with so many who have responded by sharing their material and spiritual gifts."

Mark your calendars! Join us at Abode Home on September 27, 2014, for an Open House  from 2:00-6:00 PM.

The majority of the painting was completed over the weekend. Today, the tile installer was scheduled to begin setting tile in the bathrooms. The granite counter tops have been measured and will be installed this week.

On Thursday and Friday, concrete is scheduled to be poured.

It's great to see the activity and see the home's features be filled in.

Building is moving ahead at the home, with inspections by the city being approved after the fire suppression system was finally installed, with dry wall going up. The rooms are beginning to have walls!

The Opening Celebration is tentatively scheduled for early September. Stay tuned for more information!

This will be ahouse built of rock. Watch as the big truck drops a huge load of rock at the building site. See the craftsman rock the sides of ABODE. This will be a solid home, a place that will last.

As ABODE Home inches closer to completion, think about how you will serve. Will you help pay for this building and the good it will do? Will you be among those who clean or cook or pray? All are needed.

Building continues at a steady pace. The weather, though it did turn a bit chilly recently, has been good to us. The progress to date is very visible and encouraging. In this video you will see the roof taking shape and siding going up. You will also get to see a few of our neighbors. We hope they will stay around after building is complete.

ABODE was blessed to have an enthusiastic cleanup crew help improve the yard at 8619 Post Oak Lane.

Thanks to everyone who came together to make ABODE look more and more like a welcoming home. The amount of work accomplished was incredible and the results amazing. Here are some photos from Nov. 17.
