Welcome to ABODE

ABODE provides a welcoming, peaceful home and unconditional loving care to our guests through the compassionate service of our community and volunteers.

Our Vision

Dying is a sacred time of life. Love, compassion, and a home matter to all who are dying; those whom we honor and from whom we learn. We serve the community as an educational resource in the art of contemplative living and dying.

We know you will be delighted to see that the New Year is beginning with the grounds at the ABODE site being leveled, roughed in for plumbing, and made ready to pour the foundation. The beautiful trees on the property have been given special care to help them do well through the construction. According to the schedule, framing will begin next week.

Going by every day to see the progress of ABODE's new home, taking photos, meeting the workers, it's fantastic to see and imagine what's next as the house starts taking form.

It is happening because so many are contributing their compassion, love, and generosity of spirit, and are committing financial resources to build the home, and fund operating expenses. Thank you!

In the meantime, you'll be happy to know that the search for an executive director is going well, and we hope to hire an ED to start part time in March. There is much to do!

We appreciate your prayers, good wishes and financial support as we look ahead to opening in the summer, to welcome ABODE's first guests.

With gratitude,
Edwin

The New Year is starting with a bang for ABODE!

We have just received permits from the city... and the contractors are ready to start pouring the foundation to build ABODE in mid January, 2014!

Thanks to YOU and your continued support of ABODE's mission, we have received gifts of $100,000 over the holiday season. If you haven't yet done so, It's not too late to make your end-of-year, tax-deductible contributions. Donations made through December 31st can be counted as tax deductions for 2013.

And, know that your donation will help the guests at ABODE be nurtured in a warm and welcoming home as their needs are met by a caring group of volunteers and staff. Family members and loved ones will also be there helping, loving, and sharing special times as they are able, while our guests' hospice agencies will visit to provide their medical needs.

We appreciate your prayers, good wishes and financial support as we look ahead to opening in the summer, to welcome ABODE's first guests.

Thank you...Happy New Year!

Everyone likes to be home for the holidays. With your on-going support, ABODE will be caring for those who are the most vulnerable at this time of the year...those in need of a home at the end of their lives.

Building is set to begin soon and in the summer of 2014, ABODE will welcome its first guests. They'll come to live at ABODE and be nurtured in a warm and welcoming home as their needs are met by a caring group of volunteers and staff.

Family members and loved ones will also be there helping, loving, and sharing special time as they are able, while the individual's hospice agency visits to provide their medical needs.

We need your prayers, good wishes and financial support to make this happen. With your tax deductible, end-of-year donations, the wreath will be hung and the luminarias will be lit at ABODE this time next year for the holidays.

With great thanks,

Edwin Sasek

A New Home for ABODE

June, 2013

tree2

Good news!

At the special board meeting called last Wednesday, we voted to purchase the home at 8619 Post Oak Lane.
On Tuesday morning, October 16, we purchased the property with the use of a ten year, no interest loan that we received earlier this year from friends of ABODE. Situated on a wonderful lot nearly a full acre in size with many trees, and welcoming neighbors, it will be a wonderful home for ABODE.

Built in 1947, we will adapt and expand it to meet the needs of guests. As we anticipated buying it, two architectural firms looked at it with us to talk about renovation.

Let's take time to give thanks for each other and to the many who are supporting us by helping ABODE in a multitude of ways.

As we look forward to ABODE's first fundraiser, we are walking over the threshold together, getting ready to Open Our Doors.

With gratitude to all,

Edwin Sasek

President, ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying
