ABODE Awarded $50,000 Meadows Foundation Grant and Successfully Completes the Mabee Foundation Challenge Grant

(San Antonio, TX, July, 2014) ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying is pleased to announce a grant by the Meadows Foundation to be used to complete the building of the home at 8619 Post Oak Lane.

The Meadows Foundation is a private philanthropic institution established in 1948 by Algur H. and Virginia Meadows to benefit the people of Texas. The foundation’s mission is to assist the people and institutions of Texas improve the quality and circumstances of life for themselves and future generations.

ABODE founder and president of the Board, Edwin Sasek said, “We are so grateful that so many caring people in the community are helping us to build a home in which to care for those in need at the end of life. We are especially pleased to announce the generous grant of $50,000 from the Meadows Foundation which allows us to successfully complete our $75,000 challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation dedicated to the building of the new ABODE Home.”

The J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation, Inc., a Delaware non-profit corporation, was formed in 1948 by Mr. John E. Mabee and his wife, Lottie E. Mabee, with its office in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As stated in its charter, the purposes of the Foundation are to aid Christian religious organizations, charitable organizations, institutions of higher learning, hospitals and other organizations of a general charitable nature.

ABODE is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization that will provide a warm, welcoming home for people who are receiving hospice care but, who do not have adequate care or resources to stay in their own home. Daily care for three guests who have entered the last few months of life will be provided at ABODE by staff and trained volunteers, while the hospice agency visits and provides professional medical care. There will be no cost to the guest. ABODE plans to open its doors in the late summer of 2014.
