Welcome to ABODE

ABODE provides a welcoming, peaceful home and unconditional loving care to our guests through the compassionate service of our community and volunteers.

Our Vision

Dying is a sacred time of life. Love, compassion, and a home matter to all who are dying; those whom we honor and from whom we learn. We serve the community as an educational resource in the art of contemplative living and dying.

openquote My original desire was to help any guest in the last stage of his/her life. The truth is, however,  I receive so much more than I give. Time at ABODE is always a joy.closequote

openquote Volunteering at ABODE gives me an opportunity to provide love and assistance to people whose last days could be stressful and more pain-filled without our help. Their family become my friends as we share the new meaning of home: ABODE. closequote

openquote I look forward to my days volunteering at ABODE. My heart is in the mission of hospice and in ministering to the needs of the dying and their families. The staff and volunteers at ABODE have become a family. Each person is a valued member of the team. We have come to know our guest's families and have welcomed them, shared in their sorrows and celebrated with them in the joyous moments. The whole experience is very uplifting and inspirational. To be at ABODE is to experience holy ground. closequote

openquote I don't think we have words in our English language that are adequate to describe what if feels like to be helping fellow souls on 'the most important journey of their lives.' I am humbled every time I get to serve them. Not only that....the people I have met (fellow volunteers) are the highest caliber of human beings and I continue to grow spiritually when I am in their presense. closequote

openquote To me the premise to volunteer and help someone in need is rewarding. I am inspired by Peter’s words in the bible, 'As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.'  To have empathy for the suffering and be able to extend a helpful hand is an act of love that fills my heart in knowing this is what God would want me to do. closequote
