Welcome to ABODE

ABODE provides a welcoming, peaceful home and unconditional loving care to our guests through the compassionate service of our community and volunteers.

Our Vision

Dying is a sacred time of life. Love, compassion, and a home matter to all who are dying; those whom we honor and from whom we learn. We serve the community as an educational resource in the art of contemplative living and dying.
Guiding Traditions
The guiding traditions reflect Judeo-Christian, Buddhist, Muslim and Hindu scripture, prayers and insights that encourage contemplative practices to help point the way to the deepest realization of who we are in the gift of life and death, service and love.
"Be sure, I am with you, I shall keep you safe wherever you go,"
said God to Jacob in his dream.
Jacob awoke and said "How awe-inspiring this place is!
This is the abode of God, and this is the gate of heaven."
--Genesis 28:15-17

Jesus said: Enter you who are blessed by my father! Take what is coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you from the beginning! I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your abode, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me. I tell you, whenever you did it for a brother or a sister, that was me -- you did it to me.
The Buddha said, “Help the sick and dying with loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity.”
These became the Four Boundless Abodes of Buddhism.

From a Hindu story: For the Homeless Lord who gives refuge to one who surrenders, he wanted to build a beautiful abode. He never thought of his financial capacity. All that was in his mind was somehow to build an abode for the Immortal Beauty that stole away his heart.

O Allah, O our Lord, You are peace, and from you is peace,
and to You returns peace.
O our Lord, give us life of peace, and usher us in the abode of peace.
--Muslim prayer
